In this workshop, we introduce participants to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and neurodiversity. We review typical developmental milestones followed by signs and symptoms of ASD, including sensory processing difficulties. We then provide resources that are available to DC families who may suspect ASD in their child.
This parent workshop is presented by Drena Lopez-Duran.
Early Stages is an evaluation center that works with families to identify and address developmental delays and disabilities in children aged 2 years 8 months to 5 years 10 months. A program of DC Public Schools (DCPS), we provide evaluations for DC residents who have not yet entered the school system or are currently homeschooled. Early Stages also serves families residing outside of DC if their children attend a private school or DC childcare center. All our services are completely FREE.

Este taller ofrece un resumen de las etapas típicas de desarrollo para los niños entre las edades de tres y cinco años en las áreas siguientes: comunicación, motricidad gruesa, motricidad fina, social-emocional, cognitivo. Este taller también ofrece estrategias de muestra de intervención para cada área y la oportunidad para los participantes a crear sus propias estrategias.

También estamos en la capacidad de ayudar a su familia si su hijo asiste a una escuela privada o a una guardería en el D.C., incluso si usted vive fuera del D.C. Todos nuestros servicios son GRATIS.”

We then move into a discussion about how to set the stage for healthy sleep, including learning about the “sleep window” and creating a consistent bedtime routine. Finally, we provide information on sleep challenges and how to address them, including when to seek professional help.
